Sta Maria, Laguna – Sugatan ang isang sundalo habang nagsasagawa ng COMELEC Checkpoint at patay ang suspek sa Santa Maria, Laguna nitong Miyerkules, Mayo 4, 2022.
Kinilala ni Police Brigadier General Antonio Yarra, Regional Director ng Police Regional Office 4A, ang nasawing suspek na si Rolando Villegas Lopez, residente ng Brgy. Nanguma, Mabitac, Laguna habang ang sugatan na sundalo ay si Staff Sergeant Joel Rellosa, nakatalaga sa Parang ng Buho, Cafgu Active Auxiliary Detachment ng Philippine Army.
Ayon kay PBGen Yarra, bandang 8:05 ng umaga nangyari ang pamamaril sa kahabaan ng J.P. Rizal Provincial Road, Brgy. Cabuoan, Santa Maria, Laguna habang nagsasagawa ng COMELEC Checkpoint ang mga tauhan ng Sta. Maria Municipal Police Station; 1st Infantry Brigade at 2nd Infantry Division ng Philippine Army.
Nagtamo ng tama ng bala sa hita si Staff Sergeant Rellosa na siyang dahilan ng pagganti ng putok ng mga otoridad. Agad naman dinala sa Provincial Hospital at Medical Center ng Santa Cruz, Laguna si Staff Sergent Rellosa at dineklarang dead-on-arrival ang suspek na si Lopez.
Ayon pa kay PBGen Yarra, narekober sa suspek ang isang Smith & Wesson Caliber 38; limang live ammunition at isang metal fragment.
“Our security forces are always alert to act upon on this kind of incident that may occur as they perform their duties and secure the region in relation to the upcoming May 9 elections and will not falter from their sworn duties even in the midst of threat,” pahayag ni PBGen Yarra.
